A lesson learned... never post your iPhone number on a live demo broadcast

I have been enjoying the coverage of the Apple iPhone release in NYC by the team at Mogulus. Their channel is called "iPhone Launch TV". They were one of the first to get a phone down in Soho in NYC. They ran back to their office and filmed live the activation process and so forth.

Then the best thing happened and one which they will regret for a long time. They pubished their number. Immediately after activating they said to the chat room, "Please give us a call on 646-256-3978." I think twelve seconds later they realized what they just did. Eight hundred chatters all calling at that precise moment from all over the world. They were unable to demo any features of the phone because the calls keep coming in. Even now, 1 hour later, the calls are still coming in. They tried moving to airplane mode but then they couldn't show anything.

As I start to look at live filming, this was a great lesson learned today. NEVER post your live number when you are trying to demo a new cell phone.

I think the Mogulus coverage has frankly been the best online live coverage and outdid the Scoble-Zooomr show.

The Scoble-Zooomr show was not supposed to be coverage of the iPhone. It wasn't supposed to make people want the iPhone because they're watching it. They wanted to be able to make people feel like they are there. And for me, it worked.

Subject: Thanks Alex

Thanks Alex, that helps. But why do we need to keep the camera on (i think) scoble's son for hours on end?

Anyone who can't afford to purchase an iPhone, can enter this contest for a chance to win an iPhone.
