Wow those are some nice placements!

The fact they the rss links render HTML and not ajax/JS certainly don't hurt their rankings.

We have a norad like setup to monitor the interetz! Actually I just found this one via my reader. :)

Re. rss feeds. Since they are pulling in content via RSS there are a few ways to do this. The Ajaxy or Javascript methods are bad for SEO. Outputting the content as standard HTML which they do here, is very good for SEO. Google reads this content and notices how often the site updates and boosts accordingly.

The rev share is an interesting question. I found centernetworks only because it was listed on originalsignal.com. I'm not sure they make any rev but I click through to your site to read the article and, of course, see your ads... will you be paying them a referral fee? :)

Actually, I was so impressed with the discovery aspect originalsignal and popurls, that I started a site - dealarmy.com - for shopping & deals. It's not planned to be a business, it's just a site to help people find deals.

Commander Fondue and First Chief Taurus on duty, Sir!

Yea, I also noticed he is scraping a bit of the content - which he includes in "hidden" div elements - this certainly can't hurt either - you only see the content if you mouseover an item but Google sees it at all times.

I guess google is being fooled into thinking that alltop owns that content.

also should I start commenting in friendfeed now as it appears above the site comments...

That is really interesting. But I don't understand how alltop work so well and a site like http://web20.originalsignal.com/ doesn't.

Tim - I agree. While Kawasaki says Alltop is like popurls, it's really an exact copy of originalsignal. The difference is that Alltop has "star" power that OS doesn't. I like the guys a lot at OS and popurls.

What we should learn from this is that star power can win - there are plenty of examples out there now :)

I have a better idea!
Hardcode FULL(!) Ads-FREE content in HTML page!

Please see the related article I've just published
"Google to Buy Mini-News" where the AllTop is provided as a case-study example:
