Amazon Is So Damn Cheap; How Cheap Are They?

Allen Stern - April 23rd, 2008

amazon web servicesAmazon has announced an update to their pricing structure for data transfer on their Web Services. The updates go into effect as of May 1, 2008. Amazon claims that for their heaviest users, the savings will amount to 25%. We use the S3 storage Web service on CN and I am guessing our bill will drop by 25 cents or so per month. Earlier this month Amazon launched paid support services.

Current rates:
$0.100 per GB – data transfer in
$0.180 per GB – first 10 TB / month data transfer out
$0.160 per GB – next 40 TB / month data transfer out
$0.130 per GB – data transfer out / month over 50 TB

New data transfer price (effective May 1, 2008):
$0.100 per GB – data transfer in
$0.170 per GB – first 10 TB / month data transfer out
$0.130 per GB – next 40 TB / month data transfer out
$0.110 per GB – next 100 TB / month data transfer out
$0.100 per GB – data transfer out / month over 150 TB – this is new

The best part about this is that the service is ALREADY a bargain. I set up an account on S3 a month ago just so that if a story from one of my sites gets dugg, my poor little server won’t take such a direct hit. Amazing service and great news from Amazon.
