AOLAOL has partnered with Alestra to provide distribution and Grupo Editorial Expansion on content for a new portal-type site in Spanish for residents of Mexico.

The site features content in the following areas: e-mail, AIM instant messenger, search, audio/video clips, along with news/entertainment/finance content. Users can also download the AOL Toolbar in Spanish.

The new site will be part of a relationship AOL has with HP to distribute a co-branded portal to desktop and laptop computers shipped to addresses in Mexico.

This is a smart move for AOL as the site will not only capture market share in Mexico but should also appeal to Spanish speaking people from around the world. It might be interesting to check back in six months and complete a traffic pattern analysis.
