ArabCrunch – A Blog About Arab Startups

arabcrunchEarlier today we covered Startups in Turkey and continuing the theme, we bring you ArabCrunch. Found via Hany, ArabCrunch does not appear to be related to that valley Crunch site. I can’t tell how many writers there are as no names are posted on the site. Editor Gaith Saqer left a comment below noting that he writes all of the posts on the site outside of the guest posts currently.

From their about page, "ArabCrunch is one of the first Arabian originated Blogs, that is dedicated to profiling and reviewing Arab originated tech startups and existing Internet and Mobile companies, and their products and services, especially in Web 2.0 and Mobile 2.0. We give the biggest slice of coverage to Arab startups and companies, or Arabs starting their companies in the west."

ArabCrunch appears to have launched last summer and has a variety of startup reviews and other tech coverage. It’s interesting to read different perspectives on both local news from a country but also the perspective on U.S. news from another land. It looks like they will hold a demo event for startups this month as well.

Keep sending in your favorite local startup blogs!

i agree that the discussion is only between the two interested parties.

i also would like to know if anyone here has heard of the credit crunch? its a new startup focused on destroying the world. would be nice if we could leave crunches for candy bars and other harmful things :)

I’m not sure what’s wrong with the “Crunch” name?! as long as the blog provides a valuable content I don’t really care about the name, I just checked Arabcrunch and found some good articles there so what ever the name is either it’s ArabCrunch.com or ArabNetworks.com still it has it’s own good unique fingerprint and for that we should give them a credit.

Thank you Allen for featuring ArabCrunch I am the founder and editor of ArabCrunch, I am very happy to be here indeed.

I write all stories on the blog except the guest posts.

ArabCrunch is organizing ArabCrunch DEMO 09 the Launchpad Event for Emerging Technology in the Arab World, later this month. This event is the first of its type in the region and aims to spread entrepreneurial spirit and innovation across the Arab world.

We will have official announcement soon, I will keep you posted :) also I will email you something too :D

Thanks Allen for covering ArabCrunch… It’s a useful blog for Arab startups…

  8. Don’t forget the original Crunch blog that covers the Arab and Muslim world: http://www.IslamCrunch.com. Our blog team is based in Silicon Valley and has been active since April 2007. Our themes include Islam, spirituality, community events, media, interfaith and everything in between. As you will notice, we have inspired a few similar sites like ArabCrunch and a French version of IslamCrunch (both of whom we are not affiliated with, however, Gaith from ArabCrunch is a friend of ours). Please let me know if you need more info. Thanks.

  9. Gaith says:

@Mikael, u r my friend but u had wrong info here, ArabCrunch was not inspired by IslamCrunch, I have pre planned it a while ago.

  10. centernetworks says:

ya’all need to get away from the “crunch” name – it’s just not a good idea i think…. create your own identity!

  11. Gaith says:

Thanks again, but Crunch name is cool , i Like it :)

  12. Back in the day, there were not many crunch names. It started flourishing recently. Thanks for the advice though.

  13. Gaith is chatting with me and saying that he was not inspired by IslamCrunch. Ok, brother, I accept your note and wish you all the best. I was just sharing an opinion of what I saw.

  14. Gaith says:

ArabCrunch was founded to help spread entrepreneurship and innovation across the Arab World; we aim to be part of an ecosystem that helps Arab startups succeed. Based in my past work experience, few in our part of the world try to take the risk and start their innovative business. By showcasing those who took the challenge this will help others follow.

We encourage any initiative to help achieve this mission, and as me and most Arabs are Muslims, we also encourage any tools to help achieve that mission in the greater Muslim world. Whether it is IslamCrunch or any other initiative, we see IslamCrunch as a complimentary to ArabCrunch not a competitor. However again, ArabCrunch was not inspired by IslamCrunch it is a project I had in mind since long time ago. We started on blogger then moved to self hosted wordpress, we are organizing ArabCrunch DEMO 09 the launchpad for emerging technology in the Arab world on the 23rd of Feb 09. And we are in our road to launch more interesting and related projects and initiatives.

    Salam :)

I find it interesting that this article is only discussed by the reviewed, his friend/competitor, and the writer only.
