ArmchairGM Adds Social Networking Features to the Sports Wiki

ArmchairGM is a sports Wiki/social networking/community site which was acquired by Wikia last year. I spoke with co-founder Dan Lewis last night about the new features that are launching today. I could feel his excitement about the updates along with his passion for the sports social networking niche.

First up is an interesting feature called "foe-ing". The idea is this: you have friends, you have followers, now you can "friend" someone from a rival team but they will be classified as foes. The simple example is Yankees fans and Red Sox fans. It's impossible to be friends across these lines, but you can still keep in contact by using the "foe" feature.

Other new features include:

• Message communication - public and private - similar to Twitter or Facebook
• Ability to join fan networks within the app
• Rating services similar to bix where they show you two pictures or facts, and you select the one you like
• They are working on a pick-em game where users can pick which team will win in upcoming games - wonder who would have picked Michigan's upset last week!

Dan explained that these updates move ArmchairGM from a sports wiki to a full sports social networking tool. Sports is an area which has passionate fans who will provide content 24/7, if they can harness this, ArmchairGM could do very, very well.
