Atomeet – Simple, Elegant Event Planning

We’ve covered a number of event planning tools on CN including Zipiko, MyPunchbowl, Evite, and Coordinatr. Tonight I came across a new event planning tool that might be one of the easiest and well designed yet. Atomeet launched in the U.S. last month after a successful launch in France in early 2008.

Setting up an event is as easy as entering the name of the event, the date and the location. The location box has auto-complete and ties into a map from Google. After the setup, you invite your friends and they can also leave notes in a messageboard-style format. It’s such a simple site but has all of the required elements. I like the customizable features as well.  You can see an example below in under one minute. As a public transit nut, I love the public transit options to get to the bowling alley.

Adam Ostrow reviewed Atomeet when it launched last month and also praised the design and usability. He also noted, "While Atomeet is beautifully simple, it’s difficult to imagine that being enough on its own to lure lots of users away from the competition. Personally, it seems that most invites come from either Facebook or Eventbrite these days." My take is that Atomeet should work on finding an underserved market and focus on owning that market. For example, there are many retirement communities around the country that all have tons of activities. Why not push Atomeet to these communities where they could pay for a white-labeled version? I know it’s not as sexy as listing CES parties but it’s where a more sustainable business model could live.
