Find a Place to Lock Up Your Bike in NYC
I have read a variety of stories from Alana and Charlie about various bike parts that have been stolen from their bikes. Luckily the City of New York has created a locator map for bike racks all around NYC where you can lock up your bike. While it won’t help with stealing, at least you will have a dedicated location for your two-wheeler.
The map is part of the CITYRACKS program which installs bike racks throughout the city. Currently the map has “over 97%” of the available racks in the program. You can report a busted rack and/or request a new bike rack to be installed.
What’s really neat is that the city setup the data for download so app developers can use the data in their own maps. I can see services like UpNext and Coovents using the data straight away.
Check out more on TreeHugger and thanks to Steven Hodson for the tip.
