billQ Answers My Call for a Better Way

billQLast weekend I wrote about my mom and her time in the hospital and asked if there’s a better way that technology could handle both the healthcare and financial side.

Nick from WeAreSeenCreative sent over a note about their application called billQ. One of my struggles is making sure all of mom’s bills are paid while she is in the hospital because I don’t want her credit rating to take a hit. But managing all of the bills (amounts, due dates, etc.) can be a bit difficult. billQ is a simple application that can help manage your bills.  The service launched about a year ago and released a major update on September 24.

billQ is not a full online banking tool like Mint and Geezeo are. But if you need help keeping track of your bills, then billQ might be for you. There are two plans: free and premium where the premium removes advertisements, adds SSL and opens the bill posting limits.

I created an account (typical account setup) and took each of mom’s bills and added them into a group – it seems that billQ can manage bills in many currencies (but no language options). Grouping and Reporing keeps tabs on the paid bills – but for me the reminders and scheduling is the key.

What would I like to see billQ add? A way to dynamically keep the bill amounts that change updated (i.e. electric) – perhaps a way to tie into a RSS feed from the service providers? And more options for notifications. And a Windows desktop widget (they already offer a Mac widget). And I think they would do well with a Facebook app targeted towards students.
