Overview from Boss Bitching

Boss Bitching offers the following overview on their web site (http://www.bossbitching.com/):

Boss Bitching is a user driven social content website that allows anonymous postings of stories about bosses. Posts can be made about a current boss or someone from a previous job.

First Impressions

This site reminds me of F'edCompany. The basic idea is that you can openly vent about a crappy manager. I have certainly had my share of crappy managers so I am really looking forward to trying out this service.

Service Usability

Posting a story about your boss is very easy. Click the Post Your Story link, and begin entering your tale of woe. When you write your story, you will select from one of four boss personality categories:

  • The Credit Stealer
  • The Criticizer
  • The Insensitive
  • The Micro Manager
  • The Tyrant
  • All Purpose A*hole

HTML code is allowed to really enhance the bad parts :). Stories are held for review and they state that it may take 12-24 hours for the story to post. I guess since they do not allow you to enter an e-mail address, you might not find out if your story didn't make the cut.  I didn't find the "industry" selector that useful because it is an open text box so  "Auto Insurance" and "Insurance" will serve different results. After you read a submitted story, you can rate the manager by selecting one of three grades:

  • Boss is a Prick
  • Sounds Bad
  • Stop Complaining

Lastly you can provide reviews of stories posted by others. Seems like the comments range from "Shutup and get back to work" to "You should sue the greedy bastard!". It will be interesting to see if any of the bad managers will start to see themselves in the postings.

What would I like to see added to Boss Bitching

  • I was a bit confused by the term "Review" vs. "Comments". Usability would be improved if they change "Review" to "Rating(s)". Then the ratings would make more sense and it would also reduce confusion.
  • A categories tab on the top navigation would be beneficial as well.
  • Let me sort by the three grades (listed above)

Final comments

Even though there are no company names involved in the postings, I would be cautious in using this site from work. I enjoyed getting some of the "beefs" I had with past managers off my chest. I think this site has very good potential and with the lack of a registration system should see a large growth in postings, comments and ratings.
