CenterNetworks Declares “Facebook Free Week”

FacebookNo matter what blog I have read in the past month discussing some aspect of Facebook, inevitably someone posts a comment that they are exhausted with all of the Facebook discussions. I agree and have decided to declare that this week (August 12-18) "Facebook Free Week".

This means that for this entire week, you will not find any stories about Facebook on CN. Zip, nada, none (no, this doesn't count!). Would you like to join CN this week? It's easy. Save the image on the right (or copy the code below), place it on your blog, link to this post and leave a comment (or mail me) with your blog info. If there is enough interest, I will create an ongoing list of sites that have joined in on Facebook Free Week.

Let's get it on! Code to copy:

Great Idea. You could take it one step further and substitute the words ‘face’ and ‘Book’ for something more comical – just for this week, of course.

I love that idea! We use to do it when it was time to name that band we were about to start gigging in. What I mean is.. “What if”….

Guns N Roses – would have chosen – Pistols N Poppies
Stone Temple Pilots – would have chosen – Rock Church Stewardess
Slayer – would have dropped “Slayer” and gone with – Dragon
30 seconds to Mars – would have chosen – 15 hours to Venus

    etc.. etc… :)

    Facebook? How about HeadMag?

Honestly I think this is stupid. Sure there is a lot of Fb coverage and probably – as someone mentioned above – we are really made Fb the monster it has become. But: Still it has done a lot in the past month that was worth writing about. That there are a billion other social networks that get no coverage because they are just one more photo-messaging-blog site without any usp is not the fault of Fb.

That after all the hype there had to be some kind of counter movement is not surprising and probably it can even help to start looking at Facebook in a more objective way again. Nevertheless it seems that the only purpose of this post was to drop the buzzword “Facebook” without having actual news because other big blogs are always faster with news concerning Facebook.

A “Facebook Free Week” at CN would also have been possible without this post, right? ;)

This is getting ridiculous, there are so many social networks out there just vying for attention. It’s like we are making facebook the monster it has become.

  8. Sean says:

    Best idea ever!

I’m about to remove TechCrunch from my bookmarks because of all the non-stop FB coverage. Bleh.

  9. centernetworks says:

Robert – it's all about butts in seats, right?

  10. …is on the cover of the new issues of Newsweek & Advertising Age this week. I only just started playing with it recently and am not ready to declare exhaustion or bankruptcy just yet. But the way things are going, you might need to do this one or two weeks per month for a while! ; )

  11. centernetworks says:

Dude, I am TOTALLY removing you from my facebook friends list. for sure!

  12. till says:
