Web 2.0 Fat-Off: The 2007 Edition - More Options To Lose That Fat!
Update December 25: If there are two days when you need these sites, it's Thanksgiving and Christmas. So we are bringing it back to the front to help you work off all that Christmas candy and eggnog :)
After last year's Web 2.0 Fat-Off, we are bringing it back this year! This is where we take a look at many of the weight loss Web sites that rely on new technology and capabilities and are outside the normal Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and NutraSlim. It appears that most of last year's entrants haven't made any visible changes to their applications. Considering how far the social networking platforms have come in the last year, this is a bit disappointing to see. Of course, just because there were no updates, this does not mean any of the apps below aren't worth a look. You should try each and pick your own favorite!
I am also a bit shocked that none of them have picked up on techonology such as Twitter/Pownce/Jaiku - how great would it be to send in quick updates as each day progresses and get immediate feedback from anywhere using a mobile? This could be the ultimate upgrade to an existing weight site or a new one could be born just out of this messaging technology.
Come inside to check out all of this year's entrants into the Fat-Off Challenge!
traineo and Dogster.com Team Up to Encourage Canine Fitness
Traineo and Dogster.com have teamed up to encourage canine fitness by creating a "Fitness with Dogs" group on Traineo. Traineo and Dogster are two of my favorite sites, not just because both are great services, but because both founders (Alasdair McLean-Foreman and Ted Rheingold respectively) are great businessmen.
From the Traineo site, "Humans are not the only ones who need exercise. Man's best friends also need to walk, jog, or hike just like their owners. To encourage you and your dog to stay fit, traineo has teamed up with Dogster.com - the alpha dog of pet focused communities - to launch a "Fitness With Dogs" Group. Group members can exchange dog friendly exercise routines, workout tips, and fitness success stories."
Wii and traineo partner to lose weight the new way
traineo has launched a contest along with the Nintendo Wii to award a Wii package to the person who uploads the best motivational video to YouTube. I am betting many of the videos will actually use the Wii as part of the motivation.
Besides the promotion, you can also join the Wii traineo group and become part of the community. I think this is the next evolution of Weight Watchers. Community support and tools to support your weight loss. Come inside for a quote from the traineo CEO.
Interview with traineo CEO Alasdair McLean-Foreman
I have written about traineo a few times on CenterNetworks, most recently I named it my favorite of the current fitness applications. It is a rock solid application using lots of Web 2.0 features and a great design that works for both men and women.
So to find out more, I gave Alasdair McLean-Foreman a call to discuss where traineo is headed and get some tips on building a strong business.
traineo launches Groups to help people learn from each other
traineo announced today that they have launched "traineo groups." The basic idea is that you can build a group to help give you motivation, tips, help, insipiration for helping you get to your desired weight.
I think traineo is the best weight application currently available, I gave it top honors in the Web Apps Fat-Off Challenge.
Web Apps Fat-Off
