Process Credit Cards on the iPhone With ProcessAway
Mobile company ProcessAway has announced the launch of a new iPhone application that will allows you to process credit card transactions on the iPhone. The full application costs $19.99 and a free version limits the dollar amount of transactions processed by the application.
I have a few family members who could benefit from this app when they run their sales at local markets on the weekend. Seems like it would be an easy way to process the credit cards. Receipts are emailed to the customer after the transaction is completed.
To use the ProcessAway iPhone application, you will need an Authorize.net account and a credit card merchant account. It looks like ProcessAway offers merchant accounts.
The application hasn’t been approved yet by Apple. I am confused as to why ProcessAway would go out and try to get press when they haven’t even been approved. Everyone coming to the site today receives a message that the application hasn’t been approved yet. There isn’t even a place to signup for approval notification.
Update: Justin from AppBeacon noted that there’s already an app that offers this functionality: Credit Card Terminal.

There is already an app that does this. It’s been available for the iPhone for some months now. It’s called : Credit Card Terminal

thanks – updated the post
Now there is even a “training” version of Credit Card Terminal. It lets you “practice” using the app to charge credit cards. In reality, it seems that Inner Fence has come up with a great way of releasing an umm… “demo” cough cough of an app. This would be a great way for anyone worried about paying the full cost to actually try the app out.

Hi Alan-
Just a minor correction. There has always been place to sign up for approval notification on our website processaway.net. Click on the on the AppStore link, and you will see the subscription list. I put out the Press Release because I don’t anticipate any issues with the Apple’s approval. As Justin pointed out, there is already a similiar application that has been approved, and ProcessAway doesn’t have any other potential rejection flags: excessive bandwidth or offensive material.
I created ProcessAway because the current offering, credit card terminal, was very limited and didn’t help me as an IT Consultant for transactions other than a straight charge. I didn’t like the fact that I paid $50 for that application and found out that many situations I couldn’t use it (holds, voids, captures, credits). Using credit card terminals shortcomings as a starting point, I made ProcessAway fully functional for all types of transactions, including keeping a log. I also encourage people to not buy ProcessAway until they try the free version – don’t suffer the samea buyers remorse I did. Finally, I think a more resonable cost of $20 is appropriate for those who tried the demo and want to get the unrestricted version.

You can’t even buy this yet…
Inner Fence has a iPhone terminal application and it’s avalible as a bundled merchant account though several processing companies.
It looks like this app launched this week. There is also a youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIaV0Cg0PgM
I’m a contractor / handyman and have had my eye on this because I can get paid on the spot. Unfortunately my verizon account is under contract until the end of March so I can’t port my phone number over to the Iphone I intend on buying for this application specifically..
I got to thinking – I also buy and sell a lot on craigslist. Cash in hand is always a problem. I also got to thinking about garage sales and flea markets (I love em!) – now I don’t have to carry a pocket full of cash “just in case” I see that perfect something I don’t need….!
FYI : theAppleBlog is reporting that you can get a free trial version of ProcessAway until Apple approves their app.

Hi, I am an agent with a Portland Maine based credit card processor. My customers seem to like the authorizenet plug in ap for the iphone. Authorizenet is one of the biggest payment gateways out there and I have some customers who added the iphone ap already.
It shares an authorizenet account so that if you need a payment gateway for your website, or a virtual terminal anyway the iphone app adds no additional monthly costs. We offer the authorizenet payment gateway for $5 per month with no set up fee, and we sell the iphone ap at my cost, which is a one time $50 fee. If you want to discuss it shoot me an e-mail at taskercc@gmail.com and I can forward you my full contact info.
