DivX to Distribute Google Products

DivXDivX has announceda new partnership with Google that will bring Google’s consumer products to the DivX installation. The first product to be included is Google’s Chrome Web browser. Financial terms of the partnership were not released.

The new deal is expected to launch in the first or second quarter of 2009 and replaces third party software previously distributed by DivX.

Yesterday I installed an update for Java from Sun and was presented with the option to install a variety of software from Microsoft. I wonder if this is new, I thought Sun was pushing Google also. Google certainly is pushing their browser – I even see ads for it on the Google homepage. For now, I am happy with my IE and FF combo.

I uninstalled chrome and let google know that I will not be installing it in the fuure. I also uninstalled DIVX. Why? Because the choice to do so or decline is not included in the DIVX install, nor is it stated that anything other than DIVX will be installed on the download site for DIVX.

This is my computer. The choice to install an application is mine, not some marketing team’s. Both google and DIVX have commited a breech of trust and I will not be using either product. If there is a video that requires DIVX, I’ll do without, thank you. If there is a site made specifically for chrome, the same applies.

I have had enough of companies deciding what is and is not to be done with my property.

I too have uninstalled google chrome as it was installed without my consent when installing divx, breaching my privacy rights…

Just installed DivX and it installed Chrome. I did it again to see if i missed the option to uncheck “Install Chrome” and you dont even get the option. Unbelievable that an unrelated piece of software is automatically installed.

The one thing I can saw in for DivX is that they’re not quitter’s. Every time they seem to slip off the radar, they seem to find a way to remind us they’re still here. Great Tech, but bad timing usually.
