Don't Be This Girl
I have written several times about the importance of having your sales pitch down. You need one, you need to memorize it and be ready to recite it like you would your countries national song. You never know when I (or Kara, Scoble, Justin, Jeremiah, Justine, etc) could be right around the corner with a video camera.
I want to share an example of what might happen if you aren't ready. This video is from the Miss Teen America pagent last week. The video has already received over 2 million plays on YouTube alone. Here is the text from the video so you can follow along:
Question: Recent polls indicate that 1/5 of Americans can't locate America on a world map. Why do you think this is?
Answer from Miss Teen South Carolina 2007: I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do because uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and I believe that our education like such as South Africa and uh, the Iraq everywhere like such as and I believe that they should our education over here! in the U.S. should help the U.S., should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for our children.
What was the question again? Anyway, practice your pitch over and over. In front of the mirror while brushing your teeth, on the train, in the car put it on a cd and listen back, put it on video and send it to friends for real opinions, etc. In today's video world, anything you say can and will be held against you.
