dotSUB video translation service - freaking awesome! Closed Captioning 2.0
Written by Allen Stern - December 16, 2006
Alright, so while working on the Amanda video blog story yesterday, I checked out RocketBoom to see the latest episode. Joanne, the host of RocketBoom, pointed out a service they are using called dotSUB. The basic idea with dotSUB is that you upload a video and then others can provide text translations in any language. Absolutely one of most innovative applications I have reviewed in a long time.
The site itself appears to still be in a buildout stage as there are many pages void of content. I think this service could gain market share in terms of scale and users if it had a stronger design and some social networking features.
Here is Joanne's post in all of the lanaguages that people have translated so far:
- Chinese
- Croatian
- English
- French
- German
- Italian
- Slovak
- Swedish

taken that bilingual people want to apply their language skills, this seems to be a good live idea!
