Edopter Demo - Social Trendcasting
by Allen Stern on September 2nd, 2008
Edopter presented at the NY Tech gathering this evening. Edopter is "social trendcasting" and they basically track trends using crowdsourcing and their data model. They reward users with points (blah) that can be redeemed for apparently a great pair of sneakers. I am not sure why sites that are marketing towards the tech and early adopter crowd continue to think point-systems will work. It’s a pretty interesting system and I plan to get a longer demo and interview with the Edopter team in the next few weeks.

I have to disagree with the point system thing. Look at the most popular applications on Facebook. Friends for Sale, Vampires, etc. All successful, primarily because of their point systems.
Edopter is great, I wrote about them for TC. They a) have a great application, and b) give users a way to quantify their time on the site, mainly to their advantage.
