Are You Employed or Employable? (video)
by Allen Stern on October 24th, 2008
There’s been a lot of talk lately about people being let go across large technology companies and startups. I’d like to share something with you that a CIO once told me a long time ago. It’s about always being employable instead of just being employed. I created the video below to explain the difference. Think about it.

interesting – it is true – jobs aren’t around forever anymore
What a pity you didn’t take the time to actually write something on the subject. Watching a video is way too inefficient for my life. Reading is 400% faster than watching a slow, slow video.

maybe your father did!
I thought my father made up that employable line. Oh well. So true. I have been hearing this my whole life.
Another important part of getting a job (at least as important as the stuff you mentioned in your video) is being good at interviewing. Your resume will get you the interview, but being able to confidently answer questions in an interview will get you the offer. You need to have a good knowledge of data structures, simple algorithms, etc.. It doesn’t matter whether you know asp.net or every function in the php library if you don’t know how to reverse a linked list and get all the permutations of a string.
