Facebook Down? Like Buttons Also Affected
It appears social networking site Facebook is currently down and out of action. Reports are coming in rapidly that the site is either completely not loading and/or the service is loading very slowly. I am unable to access Facebook currently from multiple Internet connections – I only get a blank page. Twitter users are also noting issues connecting to Facebook.
Update 4:45pm Eastern – Facebook is back – resume tagging photos, planting crops, etc. It does appear that they may have rolled back the changes that went live today.
I’ve had multiple people try loading the facebook.com site from different parts of the world and no dice – nothing loads.
Some CN readers have noted that the outage has been going on for over 15 minutes now although most reports are only a few minutes as of the time of this post. I also note that Like buttons are not loading as well – this will make it hard to tell the world about your love for Pepsi or the New York Yankees.
My favorite reply comes from Landon Palmer who notes, “Somebody should ask Time’s Person of the Year why Facebook isn’t working right now.”
The outage could have something to do with the changes Facebook made today including some massive changes to their Pages infrastructure.
We have emailed Facebook for more information and will update this post when we hear back.
Please remain calm during this time – you might want to use this time to do something productive.

facebook has been down for several users, but not all, here in west virginia. its been down for alil over a day now. what am i doing with my time? spending it with friends and family IN PERSON! like most of these losers should be doing. get out and go do something. stop freakin out just because “you cant get on facebook!” :( boo-hoo, grow the fuck up ya bunch of digital pussies!
Facebook is down in the Detroit Metro Area. They say it is up, but it’s not!

Well after discovering facebook was down, I actually tried to use my iPhone to make a phone call. I had heard somewhere they do that. However, it did not take long to realize they don’t do that very well, so now I’m signing up for twitter.

Note to facebrick… if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. Stop introducing “new and improved” layouts. Clearly they are NOT an improvement and people are getting sick of the constant changes.

Mine was down for 20 min or so (Southern California). I IMed a bunch of friends and they couldn’t access either. I spent that time refreshing and searching the web for what happened…LOL

I too am having this issue. It’s amazing how addicted I am to Facebook. Here I was having a bad day and can’t tell my friends/family about it. Use a phone you say? But I could get so much more support if 200 people knew at once, and I don’t have all of their phone numbers. *crosses fingers and prepares to try again*

Just like any large IT -dependent company, Facebook continues to shoot itself in the foot….nobody seems to understand how complex these massive systems are, and how FRAGILE. Worse, I think companies like Facebook KNOW there will be problems, and accept outages as “normal” during changes. This is ourageus chutzpah!
Yep, Facebook is down for me here in New Jersey. To occupy my time I looked for a website that would tell me if Facebook was indeed down, so here I am. Now I won’t be able to see all the comments of other people on the meaningless posts I make about the trivial ways I am spending my time.

Interestingly, I only check my Facebook page about once a WEEK (yeah, I’m old) and this just happens to be the time the outage occurs? LOL…..I continue to be soooooo impressed. Nope.
Well I cant believe it facebook is down! I kinda feel lost without it to be honest with you sort of like something is missing, I really hope they rectify the problem fast I might actually have to do some house work!
