Pornbook: All It Takes Is A Friend And A Newsfeed
If all of the issues with Facebook Beacon weren’t enough, today we learned that Facebook applications that your friends install can spam your newsfeed with porn. A CN Reader sent in an email chain from his conversation with Facebook after he received the following image while at work in his Facebook news feed. I blurred out the objectionable parts so it’s now safe for work.
The net result of the conversation below is that it seems if a friend installs a Facebook application which spams your news feed, you might have no recourse other than to de-friend the person. It seems the advice that Clive provides isn’t possible. (I’ve removed names/email addresses)

Subject: NSFW image in news feed
An R-rated image showed up in my news feed, while I was browsing at work.
A screenshot is enclosed– below is the original html so you can extract the appropriate IDs, etc.
Thanks,

I can’t ‘remove or restrict applications’ my friends have installed from spamming my news feed. And now it seems like I can’t stop my friends’ apps from spamming my news feed with porn! I have not installed the Movies application, so I can’t ‘restrict’ it.
I suggest you forward this to someone who is involved with the developer program; it may have more meaning to them.

Anyone have ideas for Person to make sure offending images no longer appear in his news feed?

Don’t use facebook at work…it’s the same as if one of your friends sent naked pictures to your email address. Pretty much common sense.
Contact Dave Morin. He’s the head of the Facebook platform. He’s a good guy and quick to respond on issues with the platform. Just send him a message through facebook.
