GoogleI was asked to put together an article about some innovative and far-out there ideas for Google. After drafting my ideas, the magazine asked me to change directions on the article. So rather than throw away the ideas, I thought I would post them here. So just imagine these ideas as if there were no boundaries.

Idea #1 - Gdate

A mashup between the current Google Maps and Google Local tools plus dating - I can set myself at a location and then when another searches for my area of town and my demographic set, my dot will show up. Then the user can request a meetup.

Idea #2 - Google Search by Drawing

You draw a picture of what you are looking for and Google finds matches based on the drawn image.

Idea #3 - Gpals

Google Penpal service whereby users set the search profiles to public. When you search for a topic, you will see other Gpals users who also searched for the same thing in the regions you have selected. So you could meet penpals in other countries and other cities that are looking for the same types of things you are.

Idea #4 - Humanoogler

Pay a humanoogler - Have cash to burn? Hire a Googler to do the searching for you. Meet with a Googler to setup your needs and then the Googler does the work and he/she brings the results back to you.

Idea #5 - Google Mindreader

Instead of typing your search criteria, all you need to do is look into the Google search box and think about what you need and Google will automatically find it!

So, what do you think... are these ideas feasible? Worthy? Garbage? I like idea 1 and 3 the best and could really see a huge worldwide benefit for idea number 3.

Thanks to the people who helped me tweak the ideas including: Rex Dixon, Darshan Somashekar and Mark Langeneck.

I like Gpals. Could be fun, especially when traveling.

There ya go Allen, Allen Stern CEO of the new Google spin off - Gpals... yeah.. that one is cool. Gdate of course would have to be added to it, a separate but yet complimentary Goog module; Gpals FREE, GDate - Pay money...

Oh and thanks for the mention. This came out really cool.

Subject: Google Rank

How about a feature where users can rate the sites on Google, so if a site is bad users can rank it as bad and after a lot of ratings it goes to the bottom (on top of the pr algorithm of course)

nice idea - but then we have the digg problem. this article had 41 diggs and has since been buried. why wouldn't the same thing happen with google?

don't forget Gdate could intergrate into the calender too :p

I think if google doesn't do it someone else will.

I think both #1 and #3 are ideas that anyone can execute, not necessarily Google. They would probably fit in best with the informal/personal social networks?

#2 has actually been done for searching Flickr images:

And #4 is probably what Google Answers was envisioned to be:
http://answers.google.com/answers/

Now regarding #5, can we make it so that Google already searches and filters all queries I come up with while away from my pc, and present them in a comprehensive way once I return? ;)

Subject: Number 2

I once sent a letter to google suggesting the number 2 idea, but it seems they didn't like it ;)

Worse than the actual less than practical crap google comes up with. not surprised you were asked to go a different way.

Humanoogler:

It's already existing in ChaCha's search. However, I wonder how ChaCha markets it's search especially 'Search with Guides', the guides alone cost $10 per hour, based on something. I have not gotten into ChaCha's underground to check out this and experiment. Would Centernetworks please do me a favor by checking out how do they do their marketing?
