10 Things I Learned on 24 Last Night
Allen Stern - May 12th, 2009
On the subway home this afternoon, I realized that I should have been running a “10 things abou 24″ all season long. Since we only have 3 hours left (including last night’s episode), I will start now as a test. Here are my 10 things I learned last night by watching Kiefer Sutherland and crew on 24 — leave your learnings in the comments:
- The Washington Metro apparently looks quite similar to the Los Angeles Metro
- I don’t know if Chloe uses a pc or mac, but I want that computer – the things she can do in mere seconds is amazing - seriously she opens protocols mad quick!
- While the evil chemist tested the release mechanism on the container, they put it into a sack that was sealed – while the “bomb” effect probably would have opened the sack, why not put the bomb in some more open vehicle?
- The bad cop in the train station was perfect – a great twist
- If anyone wants to shoot me their screen, apparently it can be done. My only question is, what happened to Chloe’s computer when she shot over the screen to the evil programmer? Did she get a new one via a protocol? How did Cisco play into the screen shooting?
- Clearly Jack’s daughter, Kim, is an idiot on many fronts. First, in this post 9-11 world, she was willing to leave her suitcase with a person she didn’t know. Doesn’t the FAA require you to say your bag has never left your sight? Second, when the “bad” man opens his pc and aims his webcam on her, she doesn’t think anything is wrong with that either.
- The timing is amazing on 24 – when it needs to not work for Jack, it doesn’t. When it needs to work for the bad guys, it does. Here’s an example – how did the bad husband know that at that exact moment the good spy would be in the bathroom? How did the bad husband know no one else would be in the bathroom?
- Why did the bad people want to time the canister to go off when the train was in the terminal empty? Was it a test? Seemed like it wasn’t a test so why not blow the thing up during rush hour when the train was in the tunnel?
- Amazing that in his very weak condition, Renee was ok with Jack driving – she’s the head of the FBI and she lets him drive after he just said the meds no longer worked on him?
- This one comes from “The Big Bang Theory” — one of the best geek shows because they “get” geek however they used the T word last night and therefore have lost major points with me. Lame Sheldon Lame.
So what do I think will happen on the 24 season finale next week?
- Jack and Renee will kiss and that’s how the show will end – something will happen to her
- The daughter won’t be any smarter than she was last week
- Other people who were supposed to be dead will come back
- Tony will appear to die for the 19th time (I counted) but will be back next season
- Jack won’t die – he will get the antidote on Twitter from one of the default users – this I’ve learned is how you get to be a default – you must carry the bomb antidote
Ok – leave your thoughts on the show in the comments!

Ha ha ! Had to watch it before reading your post ;)
I missed the twitter thing, when was it ?
Agreed with Eric – every season is full of unexpected developments, twists and turns, but this one is a bit too much …. From a was in Sangala to the white house to the launch of missiles to Tony’s canister to Kim being held hostage to …. ????
And Tony’s character is exaggerated too …. As you said Allen, good to bad to good to bad to … while dying left and right…
And wtf with Chloe and Janis ?? Are good looking hot actresses missing in LA ??! ;)
I miss “Nadia Yassir” !! ;)
Jack is going to die at the end of this season? Fox has renewed 24 for another season….that’s going to be awkward.
The “evil programmer” Janis Gold is played by Janeane Garofolo, and the conflict is that she has to play by the rules that control FBI behavior, limitations that Jack and Chloe are free to ignore.
In past seasons, they could do so without consequences, but in this season they (and we, the audience) have to suffer through rigged speechifying from authority figures such as the president, the head of the FBI, and rival programmers about why you can’t torture, negotiate with terrorists, racially profile, or whatever illegal tactic Jack uses to get the job done.
Through this season Renee has moved towards Jack’s POV, however Janis is still as pissed off in hour 20 as she was in hour 2.
This season has been great, but it’s getting to be to much.
I have been watching 24 since the 1st season and it seems like they are just cramming everything into this season cause we all know Jack will die in the end. To many twists for me and it just seems like they are trying way to hard to put so much in this season.
One attack ends and another begins it seems like.
I think Chloe is amazing and I am pretty sure she uses a mac,but I did see her on a Dell several times.
Does anyone know why that evil programmer that’s right by Chloe is so angry and how is she evil?
Also, in what context did they use Twitter? I missed it.
Not to mention, webcams from laptops point towards the keyboard, not away from the user. The way the laptop was positioned it was taking video the wrong way.
well I found this through a Twitter reference (@louisgray Outstanding, via @centernetworks: 10 Things I Learned on 24 Last Night http://tr.im/laX8)
Lou = Twitter
Raj – great points – it’s amazing to watch how Tony goes from good to bad to good to bad – what about Sengala – is everything ok there now?
HAHA on the override device! At least this season we haven’t heard the Cisco phone ring!
More importantly, can anybody explain how Tony’s actions make any sense this season? Why would you help stop the terrorist attack on the White House if you’re really working for bad guys who want to destabilize the government? On that same note why would you help recapture the evil and all-powerful CIP device? (The “CIP” device beats the “Override” device from Season 4 though).
what’s the “T word”?
renee and kim are so hot
