Friday Happy Hour Link Bonanza
Allen Stern - July 17th, 2009
Welcome to the first CN happy hour – a place for links and beverage-filled commentary. I don’t know about you but I sure am glad this bigtime “journalistic” week is over. Here are some stories worth reading on your train or bus ride home.
- Pubsubbubhubdubrubadubdub – Louis has the details on this new way to get RSS feeds updated and even grab some feedback too.
- Twitter changes all passwords to password, ok that was a joke… in all seriousness, they have apparently set the maximum times you can be authenticated per day to 15 but forgot to tell anyone. Somehow I am guessing they have bigger things on their minds these days. Jesse Stay explains the change and how their oAuth (that’s the password swapping thingy) is in beta (no, not like Google’s beta).
- Joe at PaidContent takes a look at why people who lie on social networks is a problem for marketers. This is why I require photo id for anyone i friend up on facebook.
- Pingdom looks at why Nokia and Sony are getting woopaged by Apple with regards to mobile devices. Apparently it has to do with Sony offering 1,910 models of phones while Apple forces their customers to all carry the exact same device.
- Steven at RWW has the story about Oracle raising their prices 40%. In other news, ice cream is no longer a half gallon – it’s like 1.2 quarts making out like its a half-gallon.
- Former blogger and now real-time micro-lifecaster Steve Rubel notes that during a sales pitch with an Edelman client, he observed that some techies lost approximately 200 Twitter followers this week. In other news, 100,000 americans lost jobs this week.
- Bronx resident and railfan Tamar Weinberg has published a book about rules for the new social community. Are there rules? Lately it seems like the 8-ball says all signs point to no.
- Frank Gruber looks at storing your files on Amazon S3 as a backup instead of on reformatted AOL 3.5″ install floppies.
