PopCrunch Party Recap
Geek for Chic was an interesting trial since both TechCrunch and Sugar Inc are San Francisco based. It was particularly fascinating to see the tech world outside of their San Francisco bubble in a city that’s notorious for being entertainment-only focused yet unconsciously huge on the social networking scene.
Guests were a strong mix of industry and locals which diluted the traditional pitching lingo that sponsors use as the norm and gave a good reality check into their core audience. They softened the tone to accommodate potential users who weren’t aware of even the basic tech terminology, but attendees wanted to attend a savvy event with intelligence, in Hollywood, by outsiders and welcomed this kindly. With a main area packed to the brim and a VIP area that was free flowing, minus the hierarchy (refreshing for Hollywood), the style and theme matched the club objective: create a savvy event that all can enjoy without the pecking order. Kudos to TechCrunch and Sugar Inc for veering out the realm of Silicon Valley into semi-unchartered territory - more of these collaborative events is the key for taking insular to Joe Public and recognizing that majority mainstream still rules the day.
coComment’s guest, Marina from HotForWords attracted a good crowd, with the intention of reinforcing commenting as sexy and reviving the art of debate in the dedicated blog.
King.com, who have an LA office and the forefront of skill online gaming, networked into the crowd, like a swan to a lake. Dimdim hyped the evening with their newly launched business & personal web conferencing service.
A good night was had by all and hopefully reinforced that California is one state, enhancing the attributes and reality of both the north & south without bias. All sponsors intended to social network and they achieved this in a classless society this evening. It was undoubtedly a good reality check that made sponsors re-check the basics of their objectives and refocus their brand messaging to the mainstream, their true bread & butter.

Valleywag reported that their photog AND Pete Cashmore were escorted out?
sorry - no idea - I wasn't there - my guess is more party reports will be online today
Pete Cashmore was definitely kicked out...search for Techzulu. They have the video coverage.
