Welcome new visitors from Google! If you are new to CenterNetworks, please consider subscribing to our RSS feed or to our email list. You will receive one email each morning with our latest content!

google mail gmailGoogle Mail (Gmail) is currently down. As of 5:30pm Eastern, reports have been coming in for the last 20-30 minutes. In our testing, we too see that the beta mail service is currently out of action.

Using the Twitter theorem, Google Mail users are now moving to Yahoo Mail.

The good news is that Google is classifying this outage as a "temporary error 502". I would be more seriously worried if it was a 942.1 or a 610,8. As usual, please report in if your Gmail is down. We will continue to post updates as we get them.

Update 5:40PM – We are now receiving reports that some people have access to their email while most are still seeing the error message below. Rafe Needleman of CNET reports that if you were in Gmail before it busted, you are still able to use the service.

Update: 5:51PMVeronica Belmont notes that if you access Gmail via the HTML option, it works fine. Go go go!

Update 6:55PM – Gmail is back – from speaking with professionals in the industry, a total of 94 people switched to Yahoo Mail during the outage.

GMail is not down. It is so working for me. Yahoo Mail is having lots of issues nowadays. I am dissatisfied with Yahoo. Most of their services are already closing down, why not close all of ‘em?!

we are trained to say twitter is down so when anything else is down we assume it’s twitter

FYI – The HTML option only works for reading mail.. you can’t do anything with it (i.e. send mail).

I think I was unable to access my work email briefly today – we use Google Apps (for your domain). But it didn’t bother me enough to actually see if there was an outtage, I think I tried 20 minutes later and it was working again. Guess I “slept” through this outtage?

Not saying that I am not concerned, e.g. my personal Gmail account holds email that dates back to the 24th June, 2004. On the other hand, I don’t remember any other outtage either.

There is still so much I like about my Gmail account which makes it hard to switch to anything else – all the storage, imap AND pop3, pretty awesome search, integrated jabber (“gchat”) and a lot more.
