Target Google AdWords to Android and iPhone
The Google Mobile team has announced this morning support for the Android G1 and iPhone devices along with any other mobile device that can render full HTML browsing. What this means is that you can target ads to either the desktop/laptop or to the mobile device. Ads that are targeted to the mobile device must have a mobile landing page associated with them.
This morning while sitting in a Manhattan coffee shop I wondered yet again if any mobile advertising has a chance to succeed. It doesn’t matter if it’s Google’s text ads or pretty display ads, can advertising work for mobile? Earlier this year I asked how mobile will be monetized and the questions still remain today.
Apparently these new mobile ads are already in place on Google search result pages.
Here’s something interesting… on the AdWords page where you can select the iPhone/Android setting, Google only mentions the iPhone:

Youtube.com is down! it’s not accessible right now.
It will be interesting to see how affective iphone and google android advertising can be when sending to a mobile landing page. Also I wonder what the click through rate would be for mobile users this is interesting because a mobile users can fall into a few categories. One being they are out and about need to find something local really quick which depending of what you are advertising could be a plus or a minus..
