The UE is not optimum. However, give it a chance, the service just started out and at them moment, I guess their top priority is fixing the privacy issues that you mentioned. Using different Google products most of the users are using search instead of sorting and putting information into folders. The problem with Google is that it only employs geniuses. The problem with that is a lot of their products (eg AdSense, Analytics etc) - expect too much of the user & are way too complicated.
