Google Gears Gets Going On Mobile
Google has announced their support today for Windows Mobile devices through the Google Gears application. Google Gears was originally created to allow developers to create offline versions of their applications and now there is support for mobile devices as well. Windows Mobile devices are the first to use the new Google Gears for Mobile access. The benefit of this launch is that you will be able to access the applications offline, say on a plane or train without Internet access, similar to using Google Gears on IE or Firefox.
Here is the official launch information along with the developer API notes.
Financial tracking application Buxfer and office suite provider Zoho are the highlighted launch partners. Zoho evangelist Raju Vegesna told me that the initial Zoho Writer application on Google Gears for Mobile will be view only and they are working on a full editor tool as well. I've embedded a short video below from Raju to explain how the Zoho Writer application works on Windows Mobile.
Below is a video from Google explaining how Google Gears for Mobile works.
