GrowVeg Helps You Plant Vegetables Correctly

GrowVegFound via Lisa Price, GrowVeg is a groovy way to plan out your vegetable garden so that you don’t end up crossing a rhubarb with corn.

The idea is similar to sites that help you plan a room in your house. Select your garden size, and your fixed items like a pond, and then start planting. GrowVeg knows how much breathing space each type of veggie needs so you don’t overlap. Once you get the garden setup and planted, GrowVeg sends you reminders including when to sow and plant.

This type of service is screaming for a social network. Let me share my garden plans on Facebook, MySpace, etc. And what about a simple viewer on GrowVeg to let me see what others have done and allow others to comment on my plan. Perhaps my cabbage should go on the top while the corn should go on the right! By adding a public, social component it will help the site grow virally.

There is a 30-day free trial and after that its about $30 a year. The service is based out of the U.K. but they seem to have vegetables listed from all over the world. Check out another review on Eat Close to Home.

Yes, social networking would be a neat feature to add and we’ll certainly be looking into it.
As for zip codes, we have plans to allow adjustments to the planting information based on location – which should be a great help for those in warmer or cooler climate zones.
    Thanks for the review!

The next step would be to submit your zip code and have them come up with some alternative as to how to plant your garden, based on size and sunlight and other environmental factors.
