Interview with Duff OMelia, Soapadoo
Written by Allen Stern - November 16, 2006
I honestly love review web sites. I think reviews is something I have been interested in since my first product review on HTMLCenter over 10 years ago. I came across a site called Soapadoo which is doing things a bit different. They combine social networking with reviews to create a level of trust in the reviews that say Amazon does not have. I called up Soapadoo's creator, Duff OMelia to find out more.
Highlights of our discussion include:
- Can we start with a brief bio?
- I read in your about page that you are a "I have been a polyphasic sleeper since December of 2005. " - what is this?
- What is Soapadoo?
- I saw you recently added the ability for users to profit from posting reviews - how does this work using the RSS feed option from my blog?
- What's the technology behind Soapadoo?
- Reviews vs. PayPerPost and the other pay review models
- Do you work with microformats like hReview for the reviews?
- Why is Soapadoo different than your competitors?
- How are you marketing Soapadoo?
- Do you think a startup can be successful from anywhere or do companies in san francisco and silicon valley have an edge?
- What do you do to get through those tough days when you feel like your site is not where it needs to be?
- Let's talk about the name change (Soapboxit to Soapadoo) - why and what can you offer others so they don't do the same thing?
- What has been your biggest mistake so far with Soapadoo?
- I read your blog post about success and just wondering what do you think a person needs to do to be successful?
- What do you think are the top 2 things a startup needs to be successful?
