Switching carriers to get an iPhone? You need SignalMap.com (video review)
Are you considering switching cell phone providers so you can pick up a geek-ified iPhone? Are you standing outside at an Apple store tonight just waiting to get your hands on the supposed product of the year? If you are, you need to check out SignalMap.com.
It's a basic application. You can find cell phone signals in your area for any provider. The app launched today so there aren't many signals in the system yet (get in there and add some!). It's a Google Maps mashup and is pretty slick.
To add a signal, enter your Zip code, move the pointer to your location and enter the bars and phone type. That's it.
To find a signal, enter your Zip code and provider and you will see a map with all signals listed. I noticed an issue with the listed zip code being different than what I entered but it is a beta.
Here is my video review:

Two points:
Fantastic video review – I really love it when there’s a video too :)
and:
I love simple, one purpose, no-fuss applications such as this. Congratulations to Adam (and the rest of the team?) on following this much-ignored principle. Having one purpose in a product by no means limits your ability to create more, similar-in-theory applications to expand the horizon.
I’m beginning to get frustrated by all-in-one bonanzas.. hmm.. I feel a blog post coming along myself :)
Thanks to Allen for the great review! As he pointed out, SignalMap is a couple days old, and is in beta. Soon you will be able to refine your signal search by address (not just zip code,) phone type, and ever-unpopular DEAD SPOTS!
It’s great to see how quickly people add their cell phone signals to the map. It really takes about 15 seconds, and you can add up to 3 per day.
Thanks again Allen for the great review and feedback!
