You say that it is about apps bringing down the cingular network, but except for the sarcastic title, it is exactly the reverse. It is in fact well summed up by this quote from near the end of the article "There is absolutely no way that a single app on a single phone (or installed on thousands of phones) could accidentally destroy a network. " It is really an interesting article, as what they are saying is that the excuse Jobs gave, exactly the one you list, is bunk. There is really no way for that to happen, Apple just wants control over it as much as possible. Classic example of using FUD as a logical fallicy. Or forget about the gadget geek crowd and just think of how many people you see on the street with an ipod and cell phone. Just on the three block walk between my house and the train this morning I counted ten. No one has come out with a device that has a decent keypad and is able to use cell or wifi until the iphone. I don't understand why it's even taken this long, but what I do know is that carrying around multiple gadgets is a pain. This seems to be the perfect solution.
