Digital Audio Networking Engineer
This position provides support specific to applications and hardware systems surrounding the broadcast facility including but not limited to broadcast and monitoring audio distribution systems, play-out (DAVID Systems) and production (Pro Tools) systems, on-air call management and call recorder systems, and our newswire editing system (NewsBoss). Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Monitor systems, respond to technical problems and requests for systems repair and provide technical assistance necessary to the broadcast and production systems
Provide support for broadcast and production system upgrades, as required
Provide modifications to broadcast and production systems in collaboration with peers and as directed by project managers and/or vendors
Maintain all technical areas in an organized and safe condition including all installations of broadcast and production equipment as well as any staging, workbench and testing facilities throughout the facility
Follow Standard Operating Procedures as set by WNYC Engineering department
Document and maintain for reference solutions to technical problems as part of WNYC trouble-reporting systems
Maintain inventory of spare equipment, and stock of parts needed for repairs
Facilitate and keep track of equipment repairs sent out to a manufacturer or third party repair center
Work closely with the IT department in trouble-shooting, repair and documentation of systems as related to the core enterprise network or systems
Acquire and maintain an in-depth knowledge of WNYC operations and its technical facilities; especially as these relate to broadcast and production systems
Willingness to participate in training recommended by WNYC
May be required to pick up or deliver equipment, parts and supplies from outside locations
Work on other special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Requires minimum three years experience working with LAN- and SAN-based digital audio systems in a broadcast or recording studio environment; requires A+ Certification
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
Requires proficient use of PC hardware, server and LAN/SAN architecture and expertise with operating systems for PC based platforms
Knowledge of digital audio, editing, mixing, storage and redundancy is required
Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Standard digital and analog audio engineering practices required
Knowledge and understanding of current radio station and recording studio practices and technology experience required
Requires ability to work autonomously and complete tasks as assigned within specified timeframes
Ability to work in a group environment, and take direction required
MCSE or equivalent preferred
Audio Engineering Degree-preferred
Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, sit, write, type, speak, hear, read, and lift equipment as necessary - required
Must be able to work in a studio broadcast and/or office environment; must be able to work remotely on occasion; must be available to work overtime as needed
