I. This position is responsible for leading a development team which builds and maintains internet software products for high-traffic consumer-facing digital properties in the preschool and parenting space: nickjr.com, noggin.com, parentsconnect.com, gocitykids.com and other new properties to be developed or integrated into the business. The position is critical to the strategy, operations, product development plans, and ongoing growth and success of these important digital properties.

II. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead role in application development and integration of end-user digital products on the sites
• Manage 10+ person software and client-side development team, functioning as a hands-on player in development activities
• Participate in the overall technology strategy of the company, and make platform decisions for the sites in this area
• Act as product development partner with the business
• Develop and implement standards for development and deployment
• Assist, train and mentor development staff, and conduct code reviews
• Personally take on some of the more difficult jobs when necessary
• Responsible for analyzing assigned tasks, providing accurate work estimates, and managing own time and that of developers to
keep development on schedule
• Ensure maintenance of code and system documentation

• Reports to SVP Tech, Kids & Family
• This position has authority to make architectural, programming development, site operating decisions, and hiring/staffing decisions

IV. INTERNAL/EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS:
a. Describe the internal contacts that this position maintains; specify the level of position(s) they interact with and the purpose.
• Interactive businesses – site and business management, producers, designers – understand and refine project requirements, advise on technical matters
• Interactive technical management – on system architectural issues and implementation decisions
• Development staff – manage team of developers, peer working relationships with other development managers, code review, mentoring
• Project Management staff – develop project estimates, provide info for them to create and maintain project plans

• Contacts with partners and vendors on outsourced development projects or integrations

V. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• No (although this will pro0bably change) b. How is this position responsible for increasing revenue?
• This position is a principal player in developing key interactive products that are the source of online ad revenues and other paid/subscription revenue streams. This is one of our biggest and most strategically important growth opportunities in the digital space,
and is heavily dependent on the right technical management for its success.

VI. Required Qualification/Skills:
• Subject-matter expert in internet software development
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Excellent hiring and recruiting skills
• Experience managing complex software development projects
• Advanced knowledge of Flash, ActionScript, PHP, Java, JSP, JHTML, CSS, XML, XSL, XSLT, JavaScript, HTML, DHTML, Video Streaming technologies
• Strong database design and development skills
• Creative problem solving ability
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment and be adaptable to the demands of all levels and types of production duties
• Capable of managing peer-level
developers
• Excellent communication skills
• Capable of understanding business objectives and able to translate business goals into
technical design

VII. EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 5 years experience in software development and management
• Successful track record of internet development
projects

VIII. EDUCATION:
• Bachelors Degree or equivalent
