Socialight is seeking a world class mobile and web UI designer to work in our Manhattan office. This is a full-time position in a fast-paced, fun startup environment.

WHO WE ARE:

We’re a 5-person mobile/web startup with a product in the market. Our Socialight platform (http://socialight.com) lets people use their mobile phones to explore and share their world in new ways using location-based, community-generated text, pictures, sound, and video. We’re an angel-backed company whose work is regularly featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, Business 2.0 and many others. Our work has won multiple industry awards. We’re currently looking for designer that is passionate about creating elegant, aesthetically pleasing work that pushes the envelope on a number of different platforms.

We need someone:

• Who is smart and creative and we can trust to find the right answers to difficult problems.
• Who loves working in a team environment. A sense of humor helps.

You will:

• Be responsible for defining the look and feel of an innovative mobile and web product that will be used on a daily basis by fanatic users
• Have a significant impact on the brand, aesthetics and direction of the company

This job is not for you unless you are excited and passionate about:

• Working very hard with a small team
• Working independently and finding creative solutions to complex problems
• Creating an innovative product that will change the way people use their mobile phones

Required skills:

• Strong visual sense, with an eye for clean, effective modern design.
• Ability to quickly design cross-browser UI from conceptual sketches/mock-ups using raster or vector-art tools.
• Fluent in web design technologies, CSS, X/HTML, some JavaScript/DOM,
• Strong understanding of web standards.
• Comfortable taking specific direction as well as working independently with general guidance.
• Comfortable juggling multiple tasks and projects while adhering to firm deadlines.
• Ability to learn quickly, stay at the forefront of emerging technologies.

Desirable skills:

• Flash or JavaScript expertise is a bonus.
• Knowledge of programming principles
