Technical Project Manager
The technical project manager is responsible for leading the development of online software products for NYTimes.com from planning stages through execution and follow-up.
Responsibilities
1. Act as a strong leader and owner of NYTimes.com software development projects, and drive them to successful, smooth, on-time completion.
2. Coordinate among various departments including Product Development, Editorial, Design, Systems, Sales, Marketing, and Business Development. Manage day-to-day relationships with technology vendors and partners. Identify the need for project team meetings when appropriate, and lead them efficiently.
3. Proactively seek out, track and remove barriers to completing a project.
4. Create required deliverables for all project lifecycle phases, including project schedules, milestones, requirements, and specifications.
5. Track project progress and report status on a regular basis to the organization.
6. Oversee smooth operation of important site products on an ongoing basis, acting as liaison between the software development group and the rest of the company for bugs, enhancement requests and ongoing needs in these areas.
Requirements
1. Three years experience in leading complex Web software development projects. Experience at content websites preferred.
2. Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate between technical and non-technical personnel.
3. Leadership skills. Ability to take ownership of complex efforts and mediate between competing interests and personalities. Ability to identify options, suggest solutions, and act decisively when necessary to advance a project.
4. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to conscientiously manage and follow up on multiple concurrent tasks and requests on tight deadlines.
5. Deep knowledge of Web technologies including, at absolute minimum, facility with HTML. Proficiency with technical concepts and an ability to learn technical concepts quickly.
6. Familiarity with project management procedures and methodology, especially requirements and schedule management. PMP certification, and experience with RUP, a plus.
7. B.S./B.A. or equivalentrequired. Computer Science degree a plus.
