Bug Labs is a high-technology startup building a new open hardware + web services community platform that will open the hardware space to personal and shared innovation the way HTML, Web services and the Web itself have opened up the software space. We are actively seeking talented, passionate and innovative software engineers to help us. If you're interested in getting in at the ground floor of an exciting new company we'd love to speak with you.

Currently, you develop web apps in an established framework such as .Net, PHP, or Ruby on Rails. You have experience in Javascript and developing rich user interface experiences in web browsers, are well versed in cross-browser issues, and know an object oriented programming language and SQL well.

We want to see some Ruby (along with Rails, Capistrano and Mongrel), MySQL, Javascript and Scriptaculous, Test Driven Development, OSS Development, Java, Eclipse, Subversion, Linux, RESTful Webservices, Design Patterns and OOP, and Apache, Nginx, or other web servers that run on Linux.

You have the following:
* Demonstrable background in computer science (algorithms, time/space complexity, abstract datatypes)
* Proven, successful experience designing, developing, testing and implementing sophisticated data-intensive web applications
* Strong SQL database knowledge and operating skills (not necessarily DBA level but self-sufficient). Must understand and know how to write efficient stored procs, triggers, etc.
* Database modeling and performance tuning skills are a must
* Ability to work independently as well as in teams. Self starter that works well with others
* Ability to discuss technical issues clearly and succinctly.
* Exposure to a wide set of technologies and methodologies
* 4 to 6 years significant, demonstrable database-driven web application development experience

It'd be nice if you also had...
* Knowledge of full software development lifecycle
* Release engineering experience
* Basic Linux administration skills
* Embedded linux development knowledge
* Distributed application development experience

Initial expectations for the Web Developer position include working in Ruby on Rails, re-factoring the user system, integrating our hosted CRM solution with the community website, adding user groups, and designing and implementing social networking functionality.

Please also tell us your salary requirement, the last book you read, and a question you have for us. Submit info by Tuesday, December 4th to jobs@buglabs.net. THANKS!
