We are currently seeking a senior-level Web Developer to become an indispensable member of a team that builds and supports award-winning Web sites for some of the world's top publishing brands.
We are looking for architect-level front-end developers who take pride in writing reusable code with an emphasis on quality over quantity. The position requires architecting and designing code that can be easily enhanced and reused rather than writing one-offs. The ideal candidate will be innovative: interested in applying new techniques and design patterns, but also fluent in current best practices and standards.
Web developers are responsible for working closely with Project Managers, Designers, and Information Architects to help define requirements and feasibility for new features and functionality. Additionally, this position requires working with backend developers to implement and integrate the presentation layer architecture following best practices and principles of reuse.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical staff, as well as the ability to coordinate different projects simultaneously within tight deadlines. A thorough knowledge of cross-browser compatibility and browser degradation strategies is required. Candidates should demonstrate proven ability to design and architect complex applications involving extensive UI and application logic.
Candidates should also have architect-level understanding of at least one, preferably two, of the following:
- Modern JavaScript coding techniques including object-oriented and unobtrusive JavaScript. Strong knowledge of DOM scripting and W3C event handling. Experience with using one or more JavaScript frameworks (jQuery, Dojo, Prototype, YUI). Expert-level AJAX/DHTML (HTML & XHTML, JavaScript 1.0-1.5, DOM Levels 0-2).
- ActionScript 2.0 or 3.0 using object-oriented principles.
- Experience architecting and implementing templating frameworks in a Java/J2EE environment using MVC principles (tiles, SiteMesh, etc). Experience with JSP/JSTL coding.
A degree in Computer Science or comparable professional experience of at least 5 years is required. Experience with the following also highly desirable:
- Semantic (X)HTML markup using pure CSS2 layout techniques.
- Java/J2EE Web application development in a Unix environment.
- Source control and working in a shared development environment.
- Php, Ruby or other web development languages.
