New York Media is looking for a mid-level software engineer to join its development team. The team is responsible for both the front-end and back-end success of the websites. The software engineer may work on projects such as creating new web applications, building or supporting the management systems behind these properties, and working with others to ensure the success of the websites. New York Media uses agile development methodologies including the scrum development framework. We are looking for a passionate developer who thrives on working in a team atmosphere and a fast paced environment. The ideal candidate keeps up with the newest development frameworks, and has interest in design patterns. We’re looking for someone who develops software because they love to.

Requirements:
•Minimum 4 years experience developing web sites and web-based software;
•Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other related program;
•3+ years development using an objected oriented language, preferably Java;
•2+ year development using Python, Perl, or other scripting language;
•Experience with source control systems (SVN a plus);
•Experience writing database queries (MySQL a plus);
•Experience with REST, SOAP, JSON;
•Linux operating systems, such as Red Hat;
•Experience developing content management systems.

Nice to haves:
•Experience developing for a media company;
•Experience with front-end development (CSS, HTML Mark-up, JavaScript, AJAX);
•Perl and Python experience;
•Django experience;
•Experience working within agile/scrum ;
•Experience writing unit tests/tdd.
