Justin.tv Adds Paid Pro Account Option
Allen - May 14th, 2009
Online video service and Y Combinator graduate Justin.tv has announced the launch of a paid “Pro Account” today. The Pro Account costs $9.95 a month. Apparently many Justin.tv users wanted a way to not view ads when engaging with the videos on the site.
Here’s what the Pro Account includes (directly from Justin.tv):
- Advertising-free viewing of all video on Justin.tv!
- Five free gifts every month.
- Access to custom Pro chat colors.
- A special icon for your name in chat.
- Custom badges for your profile and channel pages, showing everyone that you’re a Pro!
I haven’t been to the Justin.tv site in a long time. Looking at the producer spotlight section, there seems to be a lot of skin (not nude that I see) showing! And shockingly you can watch every WWF PPV on the site it seems – even the upcoming ones say you can watch for free – wow.

lol yeh i wonder when Justin.tv are going to get sued.
We took the very straight line route at http://www.LiveBaseballChat.com no logos or trademarks, nothing we can get sued by MLB for etc and in the long run i think it will benefit us ….but you have to wonder what the lawyesr at mlb.com are doing with their spare time.
Cheers,

Makes sense to me… if a user is willing to pay then they will buy more bandwidth for that user.
Also, this is old news.
International viewers started to get the “Sorry, we reached the maximum numbers of viewers per country. Buy a Pro account to have unlimited access to our streams” message about 2-3 months ago. Justin.tv never said anything.
So, you can’t handle international connections and suddenly you pay and have immediate access? Hilarious.
Please, don’t lie to your users.
According to https://secure.justin.tv/payment/pro_faq
“Why can’t I see video without a Pro Account?
Due to bandwidth restrictions in some countries, we are sometimes unable to provide access to all of the high-traffic streams on Justin.tv to all of our users. However, users who have upgraded to Pro Accounts will be allowed to view all streams at all times. ”
“Due to bandwidth restrictions in some countries”. Yeah, right.
I guess ads are annoying, but are they $10 a month annoying?
