Kaltura Partners With NYC’s WNET on Online Video Conversation
NY-based online video collaboration tool Kaltura is announcing a partnership with WNET today. WNET is the parent of PBS stations Thirteen and WLIW in NYC. If my memory serves me, Thirteen is the most watched PBS station in the country and WLIW notes they are third most watched in the country.
Kaltura notes that their technology has been deployed on Worldfocus.org, the website for WNET’s nightly news program, allowing users to participate in an online video conversation about international news items and issues from around the world.
Neal Shapiro, President and CEO of WNET.ORG said, “In addition to leaning back and watching the broadcast, we wanted to give people a chance to lean forward and get involved, join the discussion and share their opinions face-to-face through our “Talk to US” feature.
What’s interesting is that it’s not just the NYC community that can participate in the videos but anyone from around the world. Should make for some interesting conversations. We’ve seen many news organizations starting to experiment with drawing their viewers into the conversation. Fox is always pushing Twitter and CNN has their iReport video submission service. We will continue to see this trend continue as all of this new content is monetizable without the same level of effort as in traditional media.
