The only time people from San Francisco claim to live in the same area as San Jose is when the additional numbers makes SF look good.

Otherwise, don’t be fooled. SF people NEVER claim San Jose as part of their region. There’s SF, there is Silicon Valley and there is San Jose. Three different locations/mindset even though it’s one large swath roughly 60 miles long and 20 miles wide.

Still, whatever. SF/SJ/SV are all so close, that if you live in one, you can get to the other two. Does it really matter? From the farthest point to the farthest point, it is a mild commute.

Sure, there’s a lot of action in the SF Bay Area, but there’s lots of great Web startups and brilliant minds that are located outside the echo chamber.

@markwilliams You are so right about that. I’ve lived most of my life in SJ and when you ask someone from SF to drive to the south bay they whine as if SJ was in another galaxy.

Creating Clipmarks.com and Amplify.com out of nyc/nj and damn proud of it. The close ties amongst the web elite on the valley actually stifles innovation in my opinion – because the tiny percentage of people in that area play way too large a role in determining what gets attention. take wefollow.com for example. that is a dumb idea that wouldn’t get any play if kevin rose didn’t create it.

Darren we will make pickups across the world throughout the next few months – as soon as Loic is done with his speaking engagements – he has to drive – this way he can operate the megaphone and explain things on the bus – like which sites are important, where to eat, how to grow a userbase, etc.
