Looking for an apartment? Forget the paper or craigs… use GPS!

Apartments.com is launching an interesting new feature as a result of a partnership with Smarter Agent. Basically you use your GPS-enabled cell phone to find apartments in the area you are currently in. So for example, you are standing on 80th and Park in NYC, click on the GPS, visit Apartments.com and you will be provided with a list of apartments in your area. I like this idea a lot as searching for an apartment in cities like New York can be time consuming and slow.

The service will launch during the Super Bowl later in February. I have only one initial concern… how many cell phones currently available have GPS functionality? And then, we get into my data plan ripoff scenario once again. It will certainly be one to watch as GPS starts to take off for personal applications outside of the auto.
