Looks like Google has brought the tips back…and now wants me to invite my friends
Looks like Google might be bringing back the tips, at least on the home page. Check the screenshot below. This is a bit different than the previous time, as they do not appear to be related to a search, rather a home page tip.
Side note: Blogger appears to occupy the only paid top spot for a search for "blog". So it might not be a tip but I wonder if anyone can outbid Google for this term.
Certainly looks like they are pushing the Google Checkout service hard as now the offer is $10 off $10!
Update: Danny Sullivan also found some interesting things going on this morning with Google Checkout as well. RWW appears to have broken the story yesterday afternoon.
Update: since I posted this earlier this morning, I now see ads within Gmail to invite my friends over. Check out the screenshot below.
I’m not quite sure what the controversy over Google Tips is. They own Google. They own the search engine. They even own the ad system. Why shouldn’t they be able to promote their own services?
If you are trying to target one of those keywords, you are not forced to use Google. Maybe you should re-evaluate that keyword or use a different service? Note: You is a general term and not directed at one person/company.
