Managing Editor
Funded NYC social media start-up focused on improving the youth sports experience is seeking a multi-talented Managing Editor to own our editorial voice and fully maximize our premier partnerships.
This rare opportunity to join a veteran team targeting a hot yet under-served segment is ideal for a self-starter versed in online video segment production (you’ll love the world-class studio) as well as traditional editorial copy; including advice-oriented articles. Experience with user generated content a major plus since engaging members with interactive content is core to our mission. Finesse in handling professional athletes a must.
We’ll list the requisite responsibilities and requirements below, but none are more important than attitude and creativity. We’re a team that enjoys each other’s company, finding creative solutions to challenging problems, working hard and celebrating success.
RESPONSIBILITIES ALSO INCLUDE:
• Staffing and management of editorial team to include section editors, free lancers and content screeners as appropriate.
• Provide clear leadership by giving direction and focus each day to the most important content and ensuring a consistent energy and voice
• Ability to communicate and execute a video segment strategy leveraging one to one relationships between youth players and athletes
• Developing an editorial calendar based on seasonality to each user segments that speak to current issues and/or have a shelf life as evergreen content.
• Collaborate with Ad sales to ensure our inventory meets the needs of our sponsors
• Represent company at industry events
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• B.A/B.S in English, Journalism, Marketing or Communications
• 5-7 years experience with web content development
• Knowledge of basic code-HTML and CMS systems
• Excellent time-management and organizational skills
• Strong background in website and broadband editorial management as well as Web 2.0 concepts and properties
• Comfortable with data analysis and web metrics
• Passion for youth sports or parenting a plus
• Desire to win and win big
