Mashable, TechCrunch, CenterNetworks downtime today
by Allen Stern on January 2nd, 2007
Appears there are some issues today floating around the land of Web 2.0 reporters. TechCrunch has been up and down for me all day and does not load at all now (though Jake says it loads for him.)
Mashable gives a Wordpress database error and has been up and down part of today.
CenterNetworks had some issues this afternoon with the DB but our server team got it fixed up within a few minutes.
Not sure what is going on or if it is related but I need my fix, I am going through Mashabledrawls….

Our servers (http://www.wikidot.com) have been running for a few months without a serious glitch. But thanks to our ISP we had 30 min. network down in the datacenter.
I wonder how common is the “2 January effect”?
Possible explanation:
- So, where have we finished last time?
- Last year we have prepared everything for a server upgrade.
- Shall we finally upgrade it now?
- Yeah, the very first upgrade in the new 2007 year! And here it goes!
….
- Shit.
The problem at Mashable is basically too much traffic – the bigger you get, the more time you waste dealing with this stuff. I haven’t been able to post at all, although there was plenty to write about. We’re upgrading yet again, and should be back online in a little while.
