Mike Huckabee on Perez Hilton (video)
Apparently there has been a battle going on between gossip blogger Perez Hilton and Miss California Carrie Prejean. You can read about the battle on the Vancouver Sun website. I haven’t followed the battle so I don’t want to comment on it. However this morning on the Fox News channel former Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee was one of the guests on the Fox and Friends show.
I’ve posted a video below where Huckabee discusses his take on Perez Hilton as I thought it was worth sharing. He begins by saying that no one should care about Hilton’s opinion on anything because he hasn’t done anything significant in his life. While it appears that Hilton has used some very strong language with regards to Prejean, at the end of the day, he is a blogger.
Using Huckabee’s view, over 90% of bloggers, journalists and analysts should never share their thoughts and/or opinions on a topic.
Why do so many gay people claim that anyone who disagrees with them does so out of hate? How can you seriously claim that “religion is really about hate for these guys”? What constitutes religion for you or anyone else?
The only general rule is that you can’t generalize and remain accurate. It is likely, however, that many of the objections raised are about changing the definition of marriage rather than judging the gay lifestyle. I think that the vast majority of Americans can keep the two issues separate.
Did you ever consider that the disagreement with homosexual marriage has nothing to do with whether people “like” gays or not, rather we object to changing the definition of the word marriage, which for thousands of years has meant the union of one man and one woman?
Since gay unions do not fit the definition of marriage, why not make their own definition of such a union? Wouldn’t that just show the same respect for someone else’s beliefs that gays want shown to them about their chosen lifestyle?
Personally I agree with David and I am concerned that reliable information and studies that are contrary to the message the gay community wants to send out aren’t being given the same attention by the media, by the schools and by the government. Thus our children are being exc;isove;u taught a message promoted by a “special interest”. Who knows what irreparable harm this misinformation causes.? When it gets to the point where there are school systems in this country that are essentially letting elementary school age children decide “whether they feel like a female or a male today” and affecting the administration of hormones to bolster those feelings, then we’re playing a dangerous game of Russian roulette with the future generation of our society.

Probably because whatever the government promoted definition of marriage is what will be taught to children. Look at the San Francisco school system that has huge homosexual promotion in their public schools. In their most recent annual survey, 13% of the students said they were something other than straight…ie gay, lesbian, transsexual, etc.
Sexuality is not fixed and actually had a lot of fluidity. I am not saying that all gays chose to be gay (many studies I have seen show the early environmental factors have a huge impact and a gay gene has never been found although I believe someone can have genetic dispositions to sexual openness) but what we teach our children will impact their behavior and life dramatically. Upholding homosexuality as a positive standard for our children is unhealthy and dangerous.
That said, I would like to see rights expanded for gays without changing what marriage means and what is promoted to children.
Seriously…..I wouldn’t even categorize Perez Hilton as a blogger, let alone a Journalist or Analyst!
Agreed with what @David said. Huckabee is just saying, don’t give a crap about what Perez thinks. I don’t give a crap about what most bloggers, journalists or analysts think and I don’t think there is anything wrong with it.
This illustrates the fine line between making an ad hominem attack on (in this case)
a blogger, and acknowledging that readers’ should rightfully insist on certain demonstrated criteria or vetting of bloggers, to avoid an indiscriminate waste of their bandwidth. There are millions of blogs (and opinions); one cannot, nor should one attempt to glean them all. I think Huckabee attempted the point that Hilton had failed, through a lack of prior tangible accomplishments, to demonstrate that this hate-imbued blog/opinion is bandwidth worthy. However, he should have made this argument less restrictive by also considering Hilton’s prior blogs, opinions, ideas, etc.
If you — and/or any other blogger, newsperson, etc. — wishes to associate themselves on the same level of Perez Hilton — then go right ahead and feel the fury about Governor Huckabee’s statement. As for the rest of us, we take his words at face value — Hilton Perez — the man, the person, the individual — not the “blogger” — really shouldn’t be paid any serious attention by anyone who wants to be thought of as above the level of an idiot.

Huckabee isn’t saying that he shouldn’t share his thought…he just is saying he doesn’t care much about what he says…no matter what it is.
I think you are twisting words.
You may not care what I say, but that doesn’t mean you are saying that I should never share my thoughts.
Mike Huckabee is really pathetic. Why does he and many others want to stop gay people from getting married? Will it ever intervene in a opposite-sex marriage like mine with my wife? No. Who gives a shit? Legalize it already. Religion really is about hate for these guys.
