Socialight is seeking a talented mobile Java engineer to work in our Manhattan office. This is a full or part-time position in a fast-paced, fun startup environment.

WHO WE ARE:

Our Socialight platform lets anyone create communities around location-based content. With Socialight, people use their mobile phones to explore and share their world in a new way. Socialight combines user-created content with editorial and we currently serve channels programmed by sources including The New York Times Company, Time Out New York, and Travel Channel. We’ve been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Discovery Channel, Fast Company, Business 2.0, and across industry-leading blogs. Our work has won multiple mobile and advertising industry awards.
We need someone:

• Who is smart and creative and we can trust to find the right answers to difficult problems
• Whose teammates love working with them

You will:

• Translate specifications into well-designed, usable mobile software
• Help design trailblazing new versions of our unique mobile application
• Play a crucial role in the Socialight development effort, producing a secure and scalable mobile carrier-grade solution for our customers

You should have experience in the following:

• J2ME
• LAMP (Linux,Apache,PHP,MySQL)
• XML / XSLT (a deep understanding)
• Web Services (SOAP, REST, XML-RPC)
• Versioning software (especially Subversion)

Experience in one or more of the following gets you extra points:

• Ruby on Rails
• GIS
• Standards based web design XHTML/CSS
• Python / BREW / Symbian C++
