My Five Item Tech Wish List
There are five technology items that are on the top of my list when I sit on Santa’s lap at the mall this week. I thought I’d share my list with you, explain why each one is on my list and ask ya’all to share your list of tech gifts you are looking for this year. The list is in no particular order.
Gift #1 – The iPhone
I’d like an iPhone because it would allow me to stay connected when I am out of the house or in transit (which is a lot of the time lately). I could keep in contact with CN, Twitter, and news as well. And how can I walk around NYC claiming to be a leading tech blogger with only an old beatup motorola cell with no data whatsoever?
Cost – $399 – Apple or AT&T Stores
Gift #2 – Sanyo Xacti HD700
I want to move into video more than I want a date with Rachel Stevens. (ok, just kidding) This type of video camera would allow me to whip it out whenever needed and get real, live footage of conferences, events, interviews and I could even bring out my whiteboard for demonstrations (my whiteboard is bigger than Scoble’s).
Cost – $499 – Amazon
Gift #3 – Nintendo Wii
I totally rock at the bowling and tennis – in fact, when I was at the WingSix offices last year (they host CN), I schooled all of them. I’d love to play some Mario Brothers as well!
Cost – $who knows – Amazon
Gift #4 – Apple Macbook Pro
My PC is about two-and-a-half years old, laptop about three years old. PC is about to die and I was thinking of combining the laptop and the desktop together. This would certainly help with traveling – no more forgetting things at home. I’d go with the 15" for easier travel. And if I get a Macbook Pro, I’d be cool and get to sit at the cool blogger tables at conferences. Right now I’m forced to the Dell table, it’s a boring crowd.
Cost – $1959 – Amazon
Gift #5 – Samsung LCD TV
I’ve got the same TV since first year in college – granted it was top of the line back then and still runs great – got a huge deal because I was salesman of the month at The Wiz. It’d be nice to get a LCD and take advantage of the free HDTV that time warner provides. I could also push Internet video to it so I could review video shows and twitter messages from the couch.
Cost $1150 – Amazon
Please share your gift wishes as well!

I have the same list of technology wanted.
eyes on your own paper mister!
Ugh, I just bought so much of this stuff!! (see blog link in my signature) but…
1. some kind of relatively thin, lightweight and durable inexpensive digital camera to take to clubs/out. mine’s too expensive to risk it.
2. new ipod headphones – cat broke mine.
3. i, too, want the xacti. my sony digital camcorder is new but xacti’s better quality.
4. fax machine
5. voip router

– get the one Britney uses lol
2. new ipod headphones – cat broke mine.
that dang cat – i think you have it just so it breaks things so you can buy new ones. I am on to your game!

no, we can’t share if that’s what you are getting at :)
4. fax machine
wtf is a fax machine?
5. voip router
vonage.com – free
Well… What about I buy you an iphone for Christmas…
And you buy me a macbook pro?.
I think it’s a good deal. I mean, you get the thing thats first on your list and I only get whats 4th on there…
Nah – in All seriousness…
1) I want a nokia N95 8GB.
- No iphones in Australia. And no 3G makes me sad.
Admittedly my Nokia E61 rocks the wifi and the regular 3G but HSDPA is just so tempting.
2) I was looking at a video camera too actually… But i’m thinking one of those Sony or JB ones that go to a hard drive – HD would be nice too but i’m thinking it’s a bit pricey just yet.
3 – 5) I think… Something Musical. I will accept a Bass amp (Ashdown or Ampeg only though lol) – or possibly a keyboard. I’m partial to Korg R3’s but if I suddenly discovered I had more money than I thought I’d probably lash out for a CME UF88 and a Korg Radius
yea that’s a fair trade :) oooooooook
I heard the N95 is pretty big compared to the iphone.
I want a 3G iPhone with a real keyboard.
Oh wait, they don’t exist.
Hmmm.
I’ll settle for a black Macbook. My Dell is 3 years old & I am really tired of how large and clunky it is. Plus I want to be cool. :)
dude you dont need a macbook to be cool – you read CN so you get insta-cool powers!
From what I can gather (I’ve never used an iphone, but i have used an ipod touch and they’re just a little thinner), the n95 is indeed larger, but honestly, it doesn’t bother me.
I’m using a Nokia E61 (which I do quite like) now – and it’s huge for most people. I actually had a security guard at a club say to me once “Is that a calculator?” to which I replied “Yeah man, cause I totally enjoy carrying a cacluator when i’m out drinking at night. You’ve totally got me there.”… And was promptly denied entry to the place.
The moral to this story is – don’t piss off security. Unless you’ve got plans to go back there and get them a $60000 fine lol (but thats a different story).
Or… Maybe the moral is that even if it’s a little chunky for some, if it’s functional, and you’re really using that extra functionality – you’ll adapt.
Thanks for the tip Crash – I will never whip out my phone in front of security and make out like it’s a calculator – lol
i want a wireless device! blaaaaaaaaah
lol, 6. Rachel Stevens – because :p
well Allen heres my thoughts
1. iPhone, get yourself a noika e61 much cheaper and easy to sort email out on. Pair it with an ipod touch and there is no reason for an iPhone. I will get one once there is a keyboard add on and 3g.
2. nice little camera, however maybe you should go for one of those extreme sports cams and wear a hat and film your life… (mmmm I wonder where I have seen that before :p)
3. can’t argue with this as I have one :p
4. as above :p
5. as above, you have great taste Allen :p

ok
4. as above :p
ok
5. as above, you have great taste Allen :p
thank you hehe
I’m not even a guy and I have: a tablet pc and a mac (desktop but new), sidekick (love it although not as cool as iphone), 65″ LCD whatever TV, some Sony digital camera I never use (also pretty new) and an x-box (that I definitely never use). So if I have all this crap, how come you don’t buy it all for yourself? :)
well pin a rose on your nose!
i would have it all if i could afford it :)
I’d buy it for you too if I could afford it ;)
#1 A nokia n95 – it’s overall sweeter than an iphone.
#2 A dyson. :P
#3 Maybe a bigger TFT (24″…)
I don’t like my current vacuum cleaner. It’s inefficient as hell.
a vacuum cleaner? wtf – if i remember you have no carpet :)
