Thanks for commenting Mike. FYI, I currently use BurstMedia (FM wouldn't accept me??) for the RON ads that appear. Each day I go thru their list and decide who to use and not. Unlike many of their publishers, I refuse to run these stupid, almost borderline fraudulent ads. I remove the punching bear, the jumping penguin and the flying iphone.

Equifax is one of the few (very few) that I selected. I have spent many years helping people with their credit and understand how much data they control. I remember Experian's pitch to me (in my former life) about attaching their data to my customer data internally. That was a bit scary. The truth is that data is worth more than anything. I think it's really the overall system that's broken, not Equifax. Can you give me some more info (email/skype is fine) on what you mean by "destroy our personal privacy"? I guess I haven't seen that side yet and would be interested in hearing your view.

You mention "thought to who advertises on our properties." Every ad that currently appears on CN (except for the Google ads) has been personally approved by me. So if there are any others that you (or anyone) have concerns about, please let me know and I can review. I take great pride in making sure that the ads that appear are ones that I am ok with.

Of course, when we discuss Google - you run google adsense, I run google adsense, who doesn't these days. We have basically no control (except for a single removal option) on who advertises there.

I am working on another post later this week about paid buzz and how it is dealt with. When is disclosure necessary? When is it not. Etc.

Allen, well stated. I too am not sure that Om's immediate cease and desist was the best for all the bloggers overall, as it only set up everyone else to look bad. But quite frankly, if people can't take advertising with a grain of salt, especially now in the times of Google, then they might as well bury their heads under the sand.

I agree with most of what you say, even the criticism. However, I see you have an equifax ad on your site - something I would never allow on mine given what that company does to destroy our personal privacy. Maybe we all should give a little more thought to who advertises on our properties.
